Summary

Due to a shift in the market, for example the switch from analog to digital working, different Dutch furniture companies (Royal Ahrend, Gispen, Presikhaaf and Roels) are required to collaborate. The factories belonging to the different companies, could now be reorganized in an efficient way and the unnecessary factory could be eliminated. Since 2015, this collaboration has started, but there are no clear plans for the completion of Product Development yet.

In this research, a possible approach in Product Development is proposed for the future collaboration of Ahrend with the other Dutch companies; Gispen, Presikhaaf and Roels.

After gaining information from interviews with different employees of the companies to get a better understanding of how the companies operate, it has been decided to gather the Product Development department managers and give them a joint assignment because of the different ideas about the collaboration.

The goal of this meeting was to get the ideal scenario for Product Development. First the current situation was shown and discussed. After that a couple of animations about possible scenarios were presented to invite the managers to look beyond the current situation and see possible solutions. Finally the managers were asked to come up with the most ideal scenario. This scenario consisted of a joint Product Development on one location, wehere the input comes from the marketing department and the different departments of Product Development work together closely. All activities would be saved on a central plaform which is named as 'the cloud'. This ideal scenario has been elaborated in more detail on a couple of topics which were determined as indispensable in this scenario.
